At St Nicholas’ Church, in the historic Cinque Port town of New Romney, a dedicated community of bellringers keep a centuries-old tradition alive.
For over 400 years, the sound of our bells has been the heartbeat of the town and a familiar presence across the Marsh. Today, the S. Nicholas Society of Change Ringers continue the tradition of change ringing - a captivating blend of physical skill, mental agility, and seamless teamwork.
Our tower houses a peal of eight bells hung anticlockwise for full-circle ringing, along with a rare Sanctus bell cast in the 15th century. Explore the history of the tower and bells here

S. Nicholas Society of Change Ringers is affiliated with The Romney Marsh & District Guild of Church Bell Ringers (est c.1900) and has been running for well over a century, guided by a succession of dedicated Tower Captains:

If you're interested in learning more about bell ringing or joining our group, we'd love to hear from you. No experience is necessary, just enthusiasm and a willingness to learn. We offer regular practice sessions and a supportive environment where you can develop your skills and become part of our friendly team.

Weekly Practice
Generally, we meet each week on a Monday evening from 7pm (may vary) for practice sessions, where we hone our skills and learn new techniques.

Church Service
Our bells ring out each week, calling the community to worship and adding to the special atmosphere of services.

Weddings
We love to ring a joyous peal for weddings, adding a traditional touch to celebrate the happy couple.

Special Occasions
From community events to historical commemorations, our bells mark special occasions and support our community.
